Had a hell of a week, so, enjoy!
What have you been listening to?
The new Men I Trust record, Recovering the Satellites (the full album) in the car with my dad, This Is How Tomorrow Moves by Beabadoobee (because I cannot stop listening to “Beaches” off this album), and the three new Miley songs.
How did you feel this week?
Two friends told me they were both feeling apathetic, which really resonated with me. That’s been the underlying tone of my last few months, especially as I try to untangle the sticky web that is my lukewarm mind
I was home for a sad reason, and though it was nice to see friends and family, I also caught a cold and was quickly ready to be in my own bed. Instead, United Airlines absolutely ripped me a new one. We’ve all been there, and I already cathartically vented all of my updates in the family GC, but I will tell you my original flight was at 6am Tuesday morning and I did not get home until 8:30pm Wednesday evening. Oh and the cherry on top? They lost my luggage :)
So all to say, it was a bit of a rough week! But in a sense it felt good for it to be rough for tangible reasons rather than self-inflicted as it usually is.
On that note:
Sleeper hit of the week?
In the manner of searching for meaning in what felt like a rock and a hard place, this week my sleeper hit was: having full body chills on the 30 minute flight from Grand Rapids to Chicago. Was it because it was the worst turbulence I’ve experienced in my life, because I was listening to Sun Bleached Flies, or was it just the dramamine coursing through my veins? Who’s to say! But it made me feel something—maybe just a small appreciation for being alive on what was nearly the worst and longest travel day of my life (second only to two summers ago being stuck on the tarmac for four hours just to have to deplane and commute back home from mother-fucking Newark at 8pm and come back the next morning). Meanwhile, while I was micro-dosing an out of body experience, the ipad kid in front of me went from playing a racing game to watching hockey to listening to Lil Yachty to watching videos of huskies all in the span of my 7 minute and 37 second Ethel Cain song… to each their own, I suppose.
I’m just dramatic, but I love that there’s unlimited joy and meaning within the dumbest shit sometimes—maybe the key is just looking for it (maybe love actually… is all around??).
What’s your favorite thing you’ve worn?
Shorts and leather jacket!!!
What is something good that happened this week?
Went to a friend’s coworker’s band’s show—which was quite fun and a little Ska-esque—to which I obviously say I heart NY because I love that there’s a constant opportunity to do something such as going to your friend’s coworker’s band’s show. Also yesterday was my four year anniversary of living here so I just feel a little chuffed and fortunate—like blushy emoji ☺️.
What did you watch this week?
Been watching a TON of Seinfeld recently, and also started watching The Studio which I’m really enjoying so far—aesthetics are stellar: the title sequence alone made my heart flutter a little. My parents and I listened to Seth Rogen on Armchair Expert, and he mentioned how the bit about the studio being designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is a made-up detail, which I, before watching it, thought was a funny add, but it really does create a layer of world-building that makes it feel super realistic.
As for movies, I watched Sing Sing, Holland, Tommy Boy (at dearest Wealthy Theatre after my flight cancellation <3), and Away We Go which I don’t think I’ve seen as a conscious adult, and it really hit just right for the mood I was in (see: searching for meaning). For the first two i’ll once again give you my Letterboxd reviews because I’m lazy:
What have you been inspired by?
This Ansel Adams photo—after a friend was questioning whether the half dome was in Yosemite or Yellowstone, and I realized I only knew the answer because of this pic.
Also: flowering trees, new incense, reading Craiglist Missed Connections whilst almost missing my connection, and Wegman’s blueberry nectarine sparkling water.
Alright, see ya later alligators
