Not to out myself as a bro but the only thing I could think of putting in this intro is Michael Scott saying WASSSSUPPPPP.
(But I need you all to know we watched The Office on TV as a family when I was in middle school, in case you need another explanation of why I am the way I am).
How did you feel this week?
I actually felt really really good. Maybe it’s just more vitamin D, or maybe I have a sliver of democratic hope for once, but I felt really happy to be alive!
What are you looking forward to?
I’m gonna say seeing my family next week but I also need you to know the same day I fly to Michigan is the day the newest Sims 4 pack that has FAIRIES is released!!!!! A true testament of my love will be not shunning them to play immediately.
What have you been reading?
I definitely agree that The Memory Police should be categorized in the aforementioned trifecta, although I’d say it’s my least favorite of the three (still great though!). And also timely!!!! Yoinks! If you don’t enjoy slow stories that are kind of about nothing, I wouldn’t recommend. But that’s what I love most about this type of book; with dystopian novels you typically imagine something intense and action-oriented, but this was really just about existing through it.
Sleeper hit of the week?
Grape White Claws??? (You can always count on me to clock the new claw flavors immediately). These basically tasted exactly like the Wegman’s grape sparkling water I recently talked about loving. I was trying to take a dumb picture seconds after finding them but accidentally took this portrait photo:
I’m giving you a second sleeper hit because there was also this cute bug in my room the other night (a chrysopherla carnea also known as a green lacewing, according to google reverse image search):
What have you been reflecting on?
The idea that rather than living in lack, you can be excited about the possibilities of the different directions your life could take; seeing the space between you and your desires as intentional rather than insufficient. I’ve been working so hard on rewiring my brain to eliminate (or at least mitigate) my “limiting beliefs,” so this idea spoke to me. I’m so moody and woe-is-me sometimes, but even just attempting to shift my feelings around what I “lack” by catching the subconscious thoughts feels helpful, and makes the task feel less daunting.
Did you do anything cool?
Coolest thing probably was attending my second crab boil ever—🔥. But also: voting. I’ve been voting absentee in Michigan for so many years I kind of forgot how fun it is to go in person.
What’s been inspiring you?
Pretty much just the sun, even when she makes the city 100°
What have you been listening to?
One of my favorite bands, Night Moves, has two singles from their upcoming album out that I can’t stop listening to: Ring My Bell and Hold On To Tonight. TBH they are everything I want in a modern day band; something about their music intensely scratches an itch in my brain. It somehow makes me yearn while also making me so happy and light-hearted? Idk—I love it.
What have you been working on?
A month or so ago I painted these frames brown, and I love how they turned out:
So in turn I also painted this frame I bought (and shared) a while back (when I was refreshing my bedroom) to put my shells in, because I decided I actually hated the fake wood color. I wanted to match it to this light teal sea-fomy color on one of my throw pillows, but it turned out a little off and a little too cheugy-beach-home for my liking lol. I wanted it to be like Emily Bode and Aaron Aujla’s bright ass turquoise living room, but with the shells it just turned too coastal—I should've known. I might try to make it more seafoam colored, or I might go in a different direction altogether. TBD.
Let me know if you have any color ideas for me, xoxox
