Heartbreaking week all around the world, but also heartWARMING! Hope you’re all taking care of yourselves. Here’s some dumb shit to distract you for 3 minutes:
What are you looking forward to?
W2S vol. 5 coming out this weekend :)
But also, NYC public pools opening on June 27th. I am the only person I know who utilizes the public pool here lol—but a FREE POOL? Uhhh yeah. Sign me up. However, the pool is only a placeholder for my one true love whom I’ll also be reunited with soon: Lake Michigan. If you haven’t swam in the Great Lakes in the summertime, you haven’t lived. Sorry I don’t make the rules!
What have you been watching?
Started watching Andor, because lately I guess I only watch things if they’ve been recommended to me. I can’t speak to the latest season because I’m still in season 1, but here’s a quote that stuck with me:
“So much going on, so much to say, and all of it happening too quickly. The pace of repression outstrips our ability to understand it. And that is the real trick of the Imperial thought machine. It’s easier to hide behind 40 atrocities than a single incident.”
What is your hyperfixation?
These Korean BBQ style meatballs that my friend Jeannie made for a party a couple months ago (which she graciously made gluten free for me) from NYT Cooking. I had to make them myself because I haven’t stopped thinking about them. Her’s were better though so I need to workshop them a little—I assume the GF cracker choice is crucial.
Also, I ate a lot of great food in Boston, but the winner of the weekend has to be the chicken bacon ranch pita from Verveine. By name alone I know this doesn’t sound THAT enticing, but holy fuck you have to trust to me. If you ever find yourself in Cambridge looking for an insane baked good—I highly recommend this place.
Have you made any exciting purchases?
After thinking about said meatballs for two months, when I stumbled upon this “Party Meatball” shirt I decided I was legally required to buy it. And frankly, it’s a perfect shirt! Leyna, I think you need the one that says Mozzarella Sticks.
What have you been listening to?
Lately it’s been a lot of pop music but also a lot of Cibo Matto.
Have any existential crises lately?
Mostly just thinking about my ominous saturn return which just officially started on May 24th—which for me is in my 8th house: “death, mental health, and other people’s resources.” Crazy how literal it is sometimes, re: me starting therapy. The death aspect sounds obviously intimidating but the most important thing I’ve learned about astrology is that you shouldn’t fear it. Similarly to the Death tarot card, death in this sense could represent a shedding or transformation of some kind, and not a physical death. Hoping that doesn’t come into play too intensely but wouldn’t mind the “other people’s resources” aspect. Who wants to give me money!! Maybe I’ll start gambling more.
Here’s a cheat sheet of the 12 houses from my queen Chani for any of you interested.
What’s been inspiring you lately?
Can we talk about this Bee Gees album cover??? I’ve never paid it much mind until last week but wow. Love a little art nouveau moment but especially love the woman bathing in a spoon of milk (??). Album cover design really is the creme de la creme of graphic design huh—you get to be as weird as you want.

What have you been working on?
I’m not a very consistent baker because i’m not great at following directions (though having celiac loosely requires it), but yesterday I made a lil lemon pound cake to eat with strawberries and hand-whipped cream 💅 I used The Loopy Whisk’s recipe for orange pound cake, but used lemon juice instead. Nice way to brighten the millionth rainy weekend we’ve had this spring.
Sleeper hit of the week?
This vanity plate:
See you so soon for our new seasonal playlist dropping on the solstice, aka this Friday!!! I’ve been slaving away on it for many moons so you better be here for it… or else 👊
JK JK XOXO
I didn’t read anything after Party Meatball .5
Incredible!!!!!
