Goooooooooooood morning, Substack! Last week I started a note to keep track of what I wanted to include in this log, and when I looked back at it to start writing there was only one thing on it. It wasn’t even good! :/
What have you been listening to?
The hum of the cicadas in the August heat, that’s what! Other than that, it’s been:
Ben Platt’s cover of Diet Pepsi, obviously.
Big Poe & Sugar on My Tongue from Tyler, the Creator’s newest album.
And, unfortunately for all, Amazing Horse by Mr. Weebl, courtesy of a YouTube rabbit hole I’ll spare you the details of.
Additionally, I’ve had a lot of good Tetris-like songs enter my personal lexicon from my boyfriend playing games like Brotato and Yakuza 0, which, if you know me, you know is my preferred workday stimulation music.
What have you been reading?
Nothing—no articles, no Substacks, no smut. I’ve been in a huge dry-spell because I’m looking for something that will blow my hair back. The past few years, the way to get me out of a reading rut was to read something that everyone else was reading so the pressure to stay in-the-know was stronger than my desire to just sit and stare at the ceiling. Alas, that worked for about one summer. I thought my Adderall prescription would help but it has just shifted the focus even further onto other things.
I miss reading! I miss being excited to keep turning pages rather than feeling like it’s just another To-Do on the list of “Things We Must Do to Maintain the Appearance of Being Smart & Cool,” You know? Anyway, if any of you have read something that knocked your socks off recently, sound off in the comments!
Have you done anything fun?
Had a little GNO at Cracker Barrel:
Have you been watching anything good on TV or at the movies?
Saw Freakier Friday and at first thought it was going to be awful, then quickly found myself really enjoying it! And I hate to applaud something like plastic surgery publicly, but honestly, Lindsay Lohan looks fucking great.
Also had the treat of watching Dylan watch Crazy, Stupid, Love for the first time, which was almost as fun as the first time watching it. He’s the type of person that can predict a plot twist in the first five minutes of something, so it brings me great joy to confirm that he did not see this one coming!
What have you been wearing?
Bracelets! A watch! A stack of pinky rings! You’d think as a girly who has worn a minimum of three silver rings daily since high school that I would have delved deeper into other baubles, but I never really have! That is, unless you count the 2006 stint of Livestrong and friendship bracelets. Anyway, I’ve been wanting to inch closer to the woman I know I’ll be in old age, with wrinkled hands and stacks of mixed metals and jewels adorning them, so I’ve been testing out bracelets and a watch, and I fear they might be here to stay! I am obsessed!
Now the trouble will be pretending I haven’t seen the Cartier Panthère……
What’s inspiring you?
Paper Cutouts, Folk Art, evening walks with the pups, trees heavy with greenery overhanging the sidewalk, taking note of how many things are still just starting to bloom, etc., etc.

Oh and this illustration of a pickle:
Sleeper hit of the week?
Earlier this year, Dylan and I learned that we were both obsessed with Ernie from Sesame Street as children. This week, he came home from a dinner with his family with a giant tub of memorabilia containing the proof:
Not sure if my mom still has my Ernie puppet (singular—some of us weren’t so privileged as to have four…) but perhaps she’ll let us know in the comments.
Bye now!

substack is bugging out and won’t let me fix my typos, so please just know i have a prescription* to adderall, not a subscription 🙄
